Akhirnya Macbook M4 Pro keluar juga! Setelah pakai selama 2 minggu, ini review jujur aku.

Di review kali ini, aku bakal bandingin Macbook M4 Pro langsung sama Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 — dua laptop yang sering jadi pilihan developer di Indonesia. Kenapa ROG G14? Karena harganya paling head-to-head sama Macbook M4 Pro di kategori ultrabook performa tinggi.

Untuk usage sehari-hari sebagai developer, aku test beberapa skenario:

Macbook M4 Pro:

  • Chrome 20 tabs + VS Code + Docker: Smooth, gak ada stutter
  • Export 4K video (DaVinci Resolve): 3 menit 12 detik
  • Compile large TypeScript monorepo: 45 detik
  • Xcode build (iOS app): 28 detik
  • Running 3 Docker containers simultaneously: RAM usage 14GB (masih sisa 10GB)

Windows (ROG G14):

  • Chrome 20 tabs + VS Code + Docker: Smooth,偶尔回有 micro stutter
  • Export 4K video (Premiere Pro): 4 menit 5 detik
  • Compile large TypeScript monorepo: 38 detik
  • Visual Studio build (.NET): 22 detik
  • Running 3 Docker containers simultaneously: RAM usage 18GB (masih sisa 14GB)

Verdict: Seimbang. Windows sedikit lebih cepat di raw compute (TypeScript compile 15% faster), tapi Macbook lebih konsisten tanpa micro stutter. Untuk productivity, kedua-duanya excellent. Kamu gak bakal ngerasa beda signifikan di usage normal.

AI/ML Tasks

Ini yang paling menarik buat aku karena kerjaan sehari-hari banyak di AI.

Macbook M4 Pro:

  • LLM inference (Llama 3 7B, via Ollama): 25 tokens/sec
  • Stable Diffusion (local): 8 detik per gambar (1024x1024)
  • Training small model (fine-tune 7B LoRA): 2 jam 15 menit

Windows (ROG G14):

  • LLM inference (Llama 3 7B, via Ollama + CUDA): 35 tokens/sec
  • Stable Diffusion (local, cuDNN): 5 detik per gambar (1024x1024)

  • Whisper transcription (1 jam audio): 1 menit 45 detik

Verdict: Windows menang telak di AI/ML karena CUDA ecosystem yang lebih mature. LLM inference 40% lebih cepat, Stable Diffusion 38% lebih cepat, dan training 33% lebih cepat. Kalau kamu serius di AI/ML, GPU NVIDIA masih jauh lebih praktis.

Tapi catatan penting: Macbook M4 Pro pakai Metal Performance Shaders (MPS) yang terus improving. Untuk inference model kecil-mpeng (< 7B), Macbook udah cukup oke. Bedanya baru kerasa signifikan di model besar atau training.

Ini area di mana Macbook M4 Pro beneran gila.

Verdict: Macbook menang telak. Battery life Macbook lebih dari 2x Windows untuk heavy use. Ini game-changer kalau kamu sering kerja di coffee shop atau traveling. Di Indonesia yang infrastruktur kabel listrik gak selalu reliable, punya laptop yang tahan lama tanpa charger itu luxury banget.

Kelebihan Macbook lain: charger-nya USB-C yang universal. Jadi kalau lupa bawa charger, bisa pinjam charger HP (walau lebih lambat ngecas).

  • Material: Magnesium alloy, cukup solid tapi gak sepremium Macbook

  • Speaker: 6-speaker system (Dolby Atmos), good tapi gak sebagus Macbook

Verdict: Macbook lebih premium feel. Build quality Macbook itu level yang bikin kamu gengsi naruh di meja. Tapi ROG G14 juga gak murahan — magnesium alloy-nya solid dan ringan untuk laptop gaming. Keyboard ROG malah lebih fun kalau kamu suka RGB.

The “It Just Works” Factor

Ini yang susah diukur tapi ngefek banget ke daily experience.

Macbook selama 2 minggu pakai:

  • Zero crashes
  • Zero driver issues
  • Sleep/wake instant (buka tutup layar, langsung nyala)
  • Semua apps optimized untuk ARM
  • Fan hampir gak pernah kedengeran (kecuali export video)
  • AirDrop bikin transfer file dari iPhone jadi effortless

Windows selama 2 minggu pakai:

  • 1x BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) pas update driver
  • 2x sleep issues (laptop gak mau wake, harus force restart)
  • Driver conflicts antara NVIDIA dan AMD iGPU (udah fix, tapi annoying)
  • Fan noise cukup keras saat heavy load (wajar untuk gaming laptop)
  • 1x Windows Update restart di waktu yang gak pas

Windows udah makin bagus dari dulu, tapi masih ada gap di reliability dibanding macOS. Kalau kamu tipenya yang frustrasi kalau laptop ada masalah kecil, Macbook lebih hassle-free.

Tips Before Buying

  1. Tentuin use case utama - Productivity? Gaming? AI/ML? Video editing? Prioritas ini nentuin mana yang lebih worth it buat kamu.

  2. Cek software requirements - Ada app Windows-only yang wajib kamu butuh? Atau butuh Xcode untuk iOS development? Ini deal-breaker.

  3. Budget realistic - Jangan over-budget untuk fitur yang gak dipake. Macbook Rp 35 juta itu worth it kalau kamu manfaatin full. Kalau cuma buat browsing, laptop Rp 10 juta juga cukup.

  4. Consider used/refurbished - Macbook refurbished dari Apple Store bisa hemat 20-30%. MacBook M3 Pro refurbished sekitar Rp 24-27 juta.

  5. Cek harga di beberapa toko - Harga Macbook bisa beda Rp 500.000-1.000.000 antara iBox, authorized reseller, dan marketplace. Selalu compare.

  6. Garansi - Pastikan beli dari authorized reseller biar garansi berlaku di Indonesia. Kalau beli dari luar negeri, garansi gak di-claim di sini.

Q: Macbook M4 Pro bisa buat gaming? A: Bisa, tapi terbatas. Banyak game udah available di macOS (Resident Evil, Death Stranding, dll), tapi koleksinya masih jauh lebih kecil dari Windows. Kalau gaming serius, Windows tetap lebih baik.

Q: Worth it upgrade dari M3 Pro ke M4 Pro? A: Kalau kamu udah pakai M3 Pro, upgrade-nya gak signifikan (sekitar 15-20% performance bump). Better save uangnya. Tapi kalau dari M1/M2, worth it.

Q: ROG G14 bisa dipakai untuk kerja kantoran? A: Bisa, tapi agak “teriakan” dengan RGB lighting. Kalau di kantor formal, matiin RGB atau pilih warna yang subtle. Secara performance, more than enough untuk office work.

Q: Mana yang lebih awet (durability)? A: Macbook biasanya lebih awet secara hardware (5-7 tahun masih oke). Windows gaming laptop umumnya 3-5 tahun sebelum mulai ada masalah thermal atau mechanical.

Q: Di mana beli dengan harga terbaik di Indonesia? A: Macbook: cek harga di iBox, Eraspace, dan Shopee official store. ROG G14: cek di ASUS official store, Tokopedia, dan Blibli. Selalu tunggu promo besar-besaran (11.11, 12.12, Harbolnas) untuk diskon Rp 1-3 juta.

Asus ROG G14: 8/10

    • Better value for money (Rp 6 juta lebih murah, spek lebih tinggi)
    • Better untuk AI/ML (CUDA ecosystem)
    • Better untuk gaming (RTX 4070)
    • RAM upgradeable
    • Worse battery life (keras banget bedanya)
    • Build quality gak sepremium Macbook
    • Fan noise under load cukup ganggu
    • Bobot sedikit lebih berat

Bottom line: Kalau uang bukan masalah dan kamu gak butuh CUDA, Macbook M4 Pro is the better laptop. Experience-nya lebih polished, battery life-nya gila, dan kamu gak perlu mikir soal driver atau crash.

Tapi kalau kamu butuh performance per rupiah, kerja di AI/ML, atau gaming juga, Windows laptop still wins. Rp 6 juta bisa dipake buat upgrade RAM, beli monitor external, atau beli kursi kerja yang ergonomis.

Kalau kamu masih bingung, coba tanya diri sendiri: “Apa yang bikin aku frustrasi pakai laptop sekarang?” Kalau jawabannya “sering ngecharge” → Macbook. Kalau “performance kurang” → ROG G14.
